How to Embrace Creativity, Maintain Health, and Thrive in Van Life: A Journey of Balance
Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I last wrote and posted a blog. Life has been a whirlwind of painting and travelling, keeping me busy from one end of the east coast of Australia to the other. I’m lucky enough to spend a lot of time painting murals in schools, which is always an inspiring experience. It’s great to engage with students who are eager to unleash their creativity, and I love being part of that process.
Creativity has always been something I value deeply. Looking back on my own time in the education system, I feel like I didn’t get enough of it. While I was always sketching, the space to truly explore and express myself wasn’t as abundant as it should have been. That’s why I’m passionate about encouraging students, well, all people to explore their own artistic potential—whether it's through painting, sketching, or any other form of creative expression.
Since my last update, a lot has changed for the better. I’m happy to report that my health has improved significantly, and a huge shout-out to my former partner Amy for being by my side through it all. If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know that I’ve been vegan for a while, although recently I’ve shifted to a more pescatarian wild caught fish diet, with eggs occasionally, but always in moderation. I try to be as mindful as possible of what I put into my body and animal products isn't one of them.
Now after five years, I’m finally in remission—something I’m incredibly grateful for. I couldn’t have done it without the unwavering support of my family, and friends, and the positive energy they’ve given me along the way. I love you all so much, the river of appreciation runs deep.
Now, let me tell you about Van Ivy—my lifeline, named after one of my mum’s best friends. This van has taken me to so many beautiful places and has been my trusty companion through it all. So stealthy! It’s been a personal project, as I spent over a year building it out with my own two hands. Much love to a few of my friends who helped along the way.
VanIvy has everything I need: a kitchen, shower, composting loo, bed, and plenty of cupboard space for my paints. The best part? I can park anywhere and make it home. Well, almost anywhere! I pride myself on being a very polite camper.
As much as I love my current van setup, living and working full-time on the road means space can get a bit tight. So, it’s time for an upgrade. I’ve worked hard, and I feel like I’ve earned a more robust rig that will better accommodate my growing support base and the increasing demand for my large-scale murals. So watch this space...
Here’s to the next chapter in this creative, health-driven and adventurous tour we call life!
Much love and thanks for following my journey,
! N I T S U A
